Michael was born with Cerebral Palsy making his life different than other children his age. Michael uses a walker to get around as he has weakness in his hips and trunk and spasticity in his legs. He loves to swim but Michael must have a lot of assistance in the pool as he can not come up for air or stand on his own.
A few months ago Michael’s Mom signed him up for the YMCA’s Adaptive swim lessons and what a difference it has made! Not only has Michael learned to swim, he has learned how to become more independent on the water. Not only is this important for Michael’s independence and safety, but it has helped strengthen his entire body while loosening his tight legs. Michael has also thrived by meeting new friends in the program.
As a single mother with a child with many medical needs, Michael would not have been about to participate and benefit from this program if it was not for the scholarship they were given. Michael’s mother says the joy on his face tells it all!
